Flashback!

Camp was by far the VERY BEST THING ever during the school year. Year 7's next year you should be looking forward to camp very very very much because it is so amazing and fun. Make sure you are not sick or injured when camp comes around because oh my gosh its great and you have to go. That is my best highlight ever. Camp was probably the most fun ever. Except for when Joseph fell out of bed and we thought he almost died, but he's fine now. That wasn't fun. Also make sure you drink ALOT of water cause you don't want to end up being dehydrated.

I have no clue were the big day out will be. Maybe Zealandia? Only time will tell. Good luck next year Year 7's.

Here are some hand picked photos from camp thanks to Ms. Bolger for photography

Into the FUTURE!

Omigosh I'm almost a year nine! Help! Its going to be so crazy when we head off to college. Hopefully the next generation of year eights and sevens keep the dodgeball tradition going. And maybe next year there might be only two classrooms instead of three? Anyways, some things I'm excited about is my first year of college! Being a year nine seems like a cool concept and I'm excited. Next year I would like to achieve making a good impression on a new school and possibly making a football team. Im looking forward to hopefully coming back to St Benedict's sometime and playing dodgeball for room 8 (If there is still three classrooms) and leading the team to victory with (Hopefully) Other former year eights. If i do end up moving to auckland then I will try and stay in touch with everyone and I would be looking forwards to seeing Auckland and maybe even JK?! I will be sorry to see everyone go. Something challenging in year nine? Year nine. Its gonna take some work... to finish all that work we get.

All the Books!

Last week we had an action packed week, AKA Book Week! There were people visiting, events going on and prizes handed out all in one week.

One of my favourite things that happened last week was the famous author Kate De Goldie coming in and talking about her life and how she got into books. She showed us some of her books and told us a bit about them. She also gave us a spoiler on an upcoming book! (I don't remember it though, sorry) We got to ask questions about her life and about books that she had written. It would have been funny if someone asked if they could have their name in one of her books!

Another thing I enjoyed was the book character parade. Everyone in the school dressed up as their favorite book character. Some costumes were not even book characters but nobody cared. And if you show up with no costume then then your excuse is that you are yourself from the yearbook! Some people had really authentic costumes and others had planned ahead and came as matching costumes or costumes that go together in books like Captain Haddock and Tintin and Thing One and Thing Two. (I dressed up as Captain Haddock from The Adventures of Tintin). Congrats if you had an award winning costumes BTW.

Digging up Old Books

I was looking for two other book to do my blog post on when mum found one from even longer ago. I couldn't find the other books because I forgot their titles! One was something like Penguin and the Deep Blue Sea and another was a book with rhymes including poorly drawn monsters and such. But when mum had a look she found one of my old books on diggers that my uncle gave me 10 - 9 years ago. I was about 2 - 3 when I read it. It is called Diggers by a company called suborn. It is an 'usborne touchy feely' and that was why i liked it so much. The book had cartoon pictures of diggers on every page with some sort of fabric on them or plastic with bumps for all the kids to touch. One page has sandpaper and another has a dog with some fur or something on it. Anyways you get the idea. The part I like had to be the fact it was about vehicles and also that it had the touchy feely thing going on. There are six pages but they are MASSIVE.  each page is about .3 centimeters thin with seems pretty small but compared to other pages that is huge.
(The dirt in the bucket of the digger is plastic with little bumps on it)

Australian Football League

AFL Is an interesting game and i have yet to learn more. It can be confusing but fun, and once you know how to play it becomes crystal clear. Some skills i learned about the game is how to drop punt. To drop punt, it is pretty self explanatory. You drop the ball and punt it. But there is TECHNIQUE. There are some things on how to hold the ball such as keeping the stitches on the ball away from your  face, but long story short you hold the ball with two hands, point it towards the ground, drop the ball and before it touches down on the ground kick it towards who you are passing to. The only catchphrase i can remember is drop punt. Im sure once we do AFL again on Thursday it will all come back. For three facts I learned, I learned that there are 18 Aussie rules teams, there is no tackling because it is a touch sport, and you can stand on a teammate to get higher up and catch the ball.

Here is a funny photo of an AFL player. Enjoy.

Matt Damon on Mars

My favorite movie is martian and the main character is Matt Damon. And the reason it took so long to put up this blog post was because every chance i got i was doing my speech! But here is a couple  points on my favorite movie. If you haven't seen the movie, then SPOILER ALERT! This might give away some secrets about the movie ;) The main character is Matt Damon and the movie is around how he gets stuck on Mars after a dust storm. The rest of his team gets away but thinks he is dead. They later receive a message saying he is alive and the problems grow. I like the movie because of how amazing the acting is, the suspense and the amount of science that is used which could actually work in real life. Here is a photo of Matt Damon who just discovered he could grow stuff on Mars: Image result for sad matt damon on mars

Maximus the Lawyer?

Lawyer. I would love to be a lawyer. Defend people who have done wrong AND get paid? Cool. I love both of those things. Plus some people will do anything for a good lawyer, so, if I'm good I could get LOTS of money. But to be a lawyer, you need to study hard. For years. Not really my thing, but I would do it for the mon- I mean justice. According to the trust worthy internet, I should go for a well rounded education that hones writing. Write persuasive and  organized research writing, as well as well as make critical study of other peoples writing. Also read a lot if i want to keep up in law school. There are about a hundred other things I could write about to show how to prepare for law school. Some things I could also do out of school to help prepare for law school is read a lot and think critically of other people. Hmm.. i already do those things... The task sheet tells us to leave a question for our readers, and I think i know what many questions blog wide will be: What career are you honestly thinking of taking up when you are an adult?

Chipped Tooth!

Two weeks was seven days short for a good holiday. Not that my holidays were boring. For the first week in the holidays i did a holiday program at a place that took five minutes to walk to from my house. It started and 9:30 and I left for home at around 3:00. During the holiday program I got to see the movie inside out, a first for me. I know its not the newest movie but its still one I haven't seen. During the holidays I also watched The Martian, a movie about Matt Damon stuck on mars, and the movie Pixels, where aliens bring old videos games to life and have their go at destroying earth. Pixels had Adam Sandler, Peter Dinklage and Kevin James in it, (All good actors if you ask me) but if I were to pick a favorite out of the two it would have to be Martian. During the second week some family and friends form Balclutha came up and stayed in our house and at one point there was nine people in a three bedroom house! four people had to sleep on the floor and luckily I wasn't one of them :D But during the holiday program, (Yes that thing I talked about in the beginning), I ended up chipping my tooth playing basket ball. Its a long story so ask me sometime at school when I look like I'm doing nothing (Which happens a lot) and I might take time to explain how it happened.

My Fave Poem!

This is my favorite poem that I have created (Of course it is a limerick because some are hilarious)
There once was a baby named rose
Who had a very large nose
Her father said “No!”
Threw her in the snow

That baby's life really blows

That one is my favorite because a father would never emotionally or physically hurt their child and the limerick shows the opposite.

But my favorite limerick of all time is one that I found on the internet. This is the limerick:
There once was an artist named Saint,
Who swallowed some samples of paint.
All shades of the spectrum
Flowed out of his rectum
With a colourful lack of restraint

William Wood also made up a limerick about a leech. It was really funny:
There once was a lonely leech
He liked to live on the beach
He said lots of banter
And drank lots of fanta
But one day he decided to drink bleach

(This is the original lonely leech)

ᗩﬡᗩﬡᓰᗩᔕ ᗩﬡᖱ ᔕᗩᕈᖰᖺᓮᖇᙓ

The Punishment of Ananias and Sapphire is the name of a single painting (out of many) in St Peters basilica. The reason i chose it is because i saw it in person. My family and I were walking around the basilica in Rome, and a man was telling us and showing us what each painting meant. I remember this one because he said something about how each colour that the people in the painting were wearing had a meaning. I did some research and I discovered what each color meant. Here is what i found:

White symbolizes Purity, virginity, innocence and virtue.
Yellow colors symbolize renewal, hope, light and purity.
Orange colors symbolize courage, endurance and strength representing fire and flame
Green colors symbolize nature, fertility, hope and bountifulness.
Red represents fire and is associated with power and importance.
Black colors symbolize death, fear and ignorance.
Brown colors symbolize the earth, poverty and humility.
Blue colors symbolize heavenly grace.
Purple colors are always associated with Royalty

Anyways, about the artists.

The artists who made this painting are Peitro Paolo Christofari and Pietro Adami. I know the post is supposed to be more about the artist who created the art but I find the painting more fascinating than the artist. But what i do like about the artists are how they created this together and i also like all the colors. Peitro Paolo Christofari lived to the old age of 58, from 1685 to 1743. He is the son of Fabio Christofari and he became the first director of the Vatican  mosaic studio, putting him in charge of decorating the altars and domes in St Peters basilica. Pietro Adami, however is not very popular on the internet and the results i came across where not fruitful. All I found was this: Pietro Adami was an Italian painter of costal and marine views, active around the year 1730.

Here is the painting i have been talking about:

Some unlucky dodgeball luck

Im going to start off this post by saying sorry to my team. I feel bad for not being there for you but i am giving you moral support from my home. Good luck to the football team, and good luck to the boys dodgeball team. I hope you all do well. What i WAS looking forward to before my sore throat so rudely interrupted my week, was of course winning dodgeball with my friends. Im in the dodgeball mixed team so i hope we win. I guess the only thing I can do now is pray and send happy thought to you all. I hope everyone does well!

Time to Change!!!

Flag change:

I think it was a few months ago, but some people suggested we changed the flag. Now that we have decided we might change our flag, we have to choose what to change it to. If none of the entries are good i guess we wont change our flag. but i think that we need to get the Union Jack off our flag. Sure, we are part of the Commonwealth but its too much like Australia and there is already a flag with that symbol on it, so why should we use it too?  I still like our flag because of all the troops that have fought and died for this country under it. BUT: I have reviewed the forty flags that have made it into... well, the top forty and some of them would like quite good flying high above this awesome country. My top four that I have chosen are right here:
1: The wave (these are silly names and are just made up by me)

Land Of The Long White Cloud (Ocean Blue) by Mike Archer from International, tagged with: Black, Blue, White, Southern Cross, History, Landscape, Nature, Ocean.<-----FAVORITE DESIGN RIGHT HERE!!!

2: Inverted Fern
White & Black Fern by Alofi Kanter .

2: Simple and Strong
Southern Cross Horizon by Sven Baker, tagged with: Black, White, Horizontal stripes, Southern Cross.

4: Stars and... Stripes?
Raranga by Pax Zwanikken from Nelson, tagged with: Black, Red, White, Southern Cross, Māori culture, Multiculturalism, Unity.

Reflection - Art!!!

Even though I'm not very good at doing comics/cartooning, i still enjoy drawing cartoony think and doodles. My friend Frankie is very good at cartooning, but i am just not very good with all the shading. I have good ideas of exactly what the thing i want to draw looks like, and i know how i want to draw it, but whenever i draw it it dosent look that good. I guess that explains what I want to improve with.
